“Giants” is a project that I have been developing since 2006. This is a series of large-format paintings in which average people – the “heroes” of today’s world – are represented from a “frog’s point of view.” Utilizing subversive affirmation, I deconstruct the content of epic painting, leading it out of the field of ancient myths while searching for a new hero.
I am also interested in how powerful the historical “break” in the culture of post-Soviet countries seemed, when all Western art abruptly burst onto this territory in the early 1990s all at once, without any reconsideration of its historical logic. My transformation of the “grand style” is one attempt to return the historical dimension to culture.
“Велетні” - проект, який я розвиваю з 2006 року. Це серія великоформатних картин, де з “жаб’ячого” ракурсу зображені пересічні люди - “герої” сьогоднішнього світу. Вдаючись до субверсивної афірмації (підривного ствердження), я деконструюю зміст епічної картини, виводжу її з поля стародавніх міфів, шукаючи нового героя. Мене також цікавить, наскільки сильним виявився історичний “розлам” в культурі пострадянських країн, коли на початку 90-х на цю територію стрімко ввірвалось все західне мистецтво нараз, без переосмислення його історичної логіки. Моя трансформація “великого стилю” - одна зі спроб повернути культурі історичний вимір.
